Emergency Response Operations – Open House

Public Safety Open House

More than 20 community members and neighbors celebrated the opening of Meadow Farm’s Emergency Response Operations trailer on March 16, 2024.  Individuals learned how to map their way on trails in and around the “ten-mile” area between Pudding Creek and Ten Mile river.  Members toured our new first aid and communications office and learned how Meadow Farm serves as a Public Hub in the event of an emergency.  It was a good experience for us, and a success for our community.
Guests toured our newly outfitted First Aid Station and Communications trailer, complete with treatment bay, solar-powered ham radio and a posted Hubs & Routes map custom-made for our Island. A buzz of voices filled our yard throughout the afternoon. People kept arriving to meet their Public Hub Leaders, greet their friends, enjoy locally-grown snacks, tell their stories of blocked roads and power outages, and contribute to the empowerment of our neighborhood.
Many received foldable “Readiness Maps for the Go-Bag” in exchange for donations. Ten new Private Hubs were formed. Even those who did not sign Hub forms expressed appreciation for this safe, relatively relaxed place to openly face our future together.

Funding for our emergency response trailer was made available from Mendocino Community Foundation and private donations.
